Changes to our programmes
After 3 years delivering the Tuakana-Teina Chair to Chair Programme and supporting 75 Chairs of Not-for-Profits throughout Aotearoa we have now retired this programme.
In 2025, Community Governance Aotearoa will be bringing online and in-person new initiatives designed to lift the capability and capacity of the Not-for-Profit Sector.

Tuakana-Teina Programme
Community Governance Aotearoa and the Institute of Directors (IoD) partner to run the Tuakana Teina programme for new chairs of not-for-profits. The collaboration aims to strengthen and support the community governance sector with best-practice expertise of the IoD. This is a National Action Plan initiative in response to ensuring the boards of all community organisations are well chaired.
The concept of Tuakana Teina is a Māori values-based principle of ako (two-way learning), which draws upon shared experience, knowledge and support. 25 teina (mentees) are matched 1:1 with tuakana (mentors) for an eight-month programme, enhanced by additional training, support, and online and in-person events and workshops.
Community Governance Aotearoa supported 75 Chairs in 2022, 2023 and 2024!
To find out more about the programme, in 2024 was our third year of running the Tuakana Teina Programme. Read about our 2024 Teina mentee profiles here.
