We recently launched our sector survey – here’s what we’re seeing
Early indications from our Sector and Insights Survey reveal our not-for-profit boards need significant support and investment, and the way we deliver our funding and grants needs to change.
What isn’t looking good for our sector is the loss of either services, programmes and/or staff within the next year, over 50% of respondents (from around 100 responses so far) indicated having to make these tough decisions.
I can’t help think of the impact this will have for our communities, we are in for tough times.
A Persistent Challenge
Funding, or the lack of options, is always top of mind for our not-for-profits. Multi-year grant funding is top priority with almost 80% of respondents wanting to see this option from government and the philanthropic sector.

So what can we do?
This article I recently came across is a good example of board leadership and recognises the work our not-for-profit sector contributes to our local communities: ‘Gifted Pupils Programme Given To Charity’ – ODT
An option to consider is working alongside and with our own networks, such as charities, local funders, partners and businesses.

Moving Forward
While the survey results are still coming in, it’s encouraging to see that we are actively thinking about how to address this funding crisis and move confidently through these tough times.
In these challenging times, knowing we are making a difference really keeps us going – a survey respondent shared some lovely feedback with us:
“Thank you for your service and commitment to our communities, without you we’re broken and our voluntary sector will suffer severely.“
