‘I love Community Governance’ returns on Friday 24 November, 12pm-2.30pm. Join us to hear from our inspirational keynote speaker, network with others in the sector, and engage with a series of panel talks.
Rose Hiha-Agnew, CE – Tumu Whakarae at Community Governance Aotearoa says “We are taking ownership by championing and valuing our community of not-for-profits through events such as this. Our not-for-profits want to see governance and leadership from those grounded in grassroots communities who bring skills and lived experience to the table”.
Mele Wendt will open our event as our keynote speaker. Mele was awarded a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2019, and in 2022 she won the Not-For-Profit Governance Leader Award at the Women in Governance Awards for her services to governance, the Pacific community, and women.
Mele will share her personal story of growing up in Samoa (and Fiji) and how this has grounded and impacted her governance practice in Aotearoa today. She will provide some commentary on aspects of Pacific governance systems, values and practices, and compare/contrast these with Western governance, including her views on decolonising our governance systems.
Our panel guests join us from community organisations such as, Hui E!, Diversity Works NZ, InsideOUT, Multiethnic Young Leaders, YWCA, Social Change Collective and Ngā Uri o Whiti Te Rā Mai Le Moana Trust and we’ll hear first-hand about the challenges and rewards facing our community governors.
Our first event in June 2023 had over 500 community members register their interest and brought together hundreds of community leaders. Join us for our second free online event, and together, let’s celebrate our not-for-profit community.
