Community Governance Aotearoa announces new Independent Board Chair

Welcome Hēmi Rolleston to the Community Governance whānau

The Trustees of Community Governance Aotearoa have appointed a new Independent Board Chair, Hēmi Rolleston (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui) to the Community Governance Aotearoa whānau.

Hēmi has significant commercial and leadership experience in Māori economic development, science, innovation including research and development. He has held a number of senior executive roles and senior governance roles including Chair of the McDiarmid Institute, Inzone Education Foundation and Ngāti Whakaue Assets Trust and an Advisory Board Member of Waikato University Management School.

“I am honoured to take on this role and help steer the waka into its next iteration, one that makes a significant and meaningful impact on the organisation and thus the communities and people that we serve. I have watched closely, the successful journey of this organisation and want to thank those who have done the awesome mahi to build the foundations that I can now help build on. In these challenging economic times, organisations such as Community Governance Aotearoa become even more critical and I look forward to leaning in to support the board and management”.

Community Governance Aotearoa Tangata Whenua Chair Kevin Haunui says,

“On behalf of the board, we look forward to working alongside Hēmi as we take stock of our environment and focus on the growing importance of ethics, stakeholder engagement, social responsibility and sustainability in governance practices”.

Moving forward Community Governance Aotearoa’s governing structure will be reviewed to ensure it aligns to the future needs and responds to the demand of supporting good governance practice for Aotearoa New Zealand non-governmental organisations and not-for-profits.

Community Governance Aotearoa Chief Executive Rose Hiha-Agnew welcomes Hēmi and says,

“Our communities are facing ever increasing challenges and our environment is ever changing, sometimes a good reset is needed in order to respond and thrive. I look forward to working alongside Hēmi through this period of change as we continue to support our amazing community”.

Hēmi fills the Independent Chair position beginning 01 October 2024.
